Julie Sutter

Julie Sutter puts the art in party in Fort Collins, as the co-founder of Articulate City, an arts-and-culture social club with an ever-expanding membership base and a reputation for hosting memorable monthly events. A Colorado native, Julie was born in Southeastern CO (Lamar), raised on the plains of Northeastern CO (Sterling), lived briefly in Southwestern CO (Gunnison), and likes to visit Northwestern Colorado (Steamboat especially). After a 10-year jaunt out of state, she finally realized that there’s no place like home, and settled in Fort Collins – right in the middle of everything – in 2003. During her decade away from Colorado, Julie earned a BA in Communications from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, then promptly moved to South Lake Tahoe, CA (to work at a ski resort). The ski resort stint led to a position in a software company based in Taos, NM. Between the ski resort and the software company, she picked up all sorts of useful skills, including “how to hire and train hundreds of employees”, “how to help hundreds of customers with a smile on your face”, “how to troubleshoot troublesome technology”, “how to start, promote, and grow a successful business”, and “how to snowboard.” She eventually returned to Colorado, where her parents were still patiently waiting to see if she’d ever really use her expensive private education. A former print journalism major, Julie currently divides her time between cheerfully accepting freelance writing and editing assignments, exploring the ever-evolving world of social media, trying to explain words like “blog” to her parents, and mourning the death of various newspapers. After-hours, she champions a variety of arts-related efforts in addition to Articulate City, such as the Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art, the UniverCity Connections Arts and Culture Task Force, First Friday Gallery Walk, the TriMedia Film Festival, and numerous other cultural causes. Julie is a member of the Downtown Business Association, a 2008 nominee for the Northern Colorado Business Report “40 Under Forty”, and serves on the Board of Directors for Emerge Colorado, a young professionals networking club. She is also a voracious reader, a frequent bike-rider (both road and cruiser-style), and likes helicopters, sushi, documentary films, live music, dead poets, public radio, college basketball, kittens and televised awards shows. She lives in Old Town Fort Collins.
