La Creperie of Fort Collins box Wednesday, Mar 3 2010 9:01 am

You know the saying "Good things come to those who wait"? I've been trying to get to La Creperie for the review for quite some time. Every time I had plans, something would come up. It was either a Monday morning (when they aren't open) or the boys would get sick and I'd be on germ lock-down at home...it was always something. Then finally, Mars and Saturn aligned perfectly, the westward wind was blowing at the exact right speed, I clicked my ruby-red slippers three times, rubbed a rabbit's foot and wore my lucky underwear. I finally was able to enjoy the loveliness that is La Creperie. It was well worth the wait and my friend and I were richly rewarded with gratifying dishes in a charming atmosphere.

Owners Claude and Carole Lucas opened La Creperie in August of 2009 on the corner of Mountain and Mason, just a few doors down from The Rio. They originally intended to open a bakery much like they had in Key West, serving croissants and even making wedding cakes, but ran into some problems when discovering the electrical wiring in the historic building wouldn't support the ovens. Drawing from his experience growing up in Brittany where his father was the town's baker, Claude Lucas brought galettes, traditional buckwheat crepes that originated in Brittany, to Old Town Fort Collins. In addition to a very wide selection of galettes and sweet crepes on the menu, you can find French onion soup, omelets, paninis, cocotte brioche, french toast and fresh fruit as well...
