Some actors only listen to the critics. Some directors only pay attention to audience fanfare. And some consider compliments from other thespians to be the highest honor.

But everyone, yes everyone, likes an award.

With that sad, the Fort Collins theater community is probably feeling pretty good about itself right now. The Denver Post has announced the nominees for its annual Ovation Awards, which recognizes the best of Colorado’s actors, directors, theater companies, etc. Post theater critic John Moore will announce the winners on Dec. 28.

Bas Bleu Theatre Company was nominated for 12 awards, including “best year by a company,” “theater person of the year” (Bas Bleu actress and founder Wendy Ishii, who was also nominated in categories “best primarily solo performance” for Happy Days and “best year by an actress”), and “best drama” for Someone Who'll Watch Over Me and Wings. Bas Bleu mainstay Jonathan Farwell received a “best director” nomination for Someone Who'll Watch Over Me and actor Leonard Barrett, who starred in Someone Who'll Watch Over Me, was nominated for “best year by an actor.”

Along side Ishii in the “best primarily solo performance” category, actress Frances Burns was nominated for Bas Bleu’s production of Bernice/Butterfly. Walton Jones and Annaleigh Timmerman were nominated for “best sound” for Bas Bleu's Wings.

And 1940s Radio Christmas Carol, which is now running at the theater, is a nominee in the “best original music” (David Wohl and Faye Greenberg) and “best remount” categories.

OpenStage Theatre & Company’s Jason Short was also nominated in the “best young actor” category for his wonderful work in The Cripple of Inishmaan.

Congrats to all!
