Some secrets aren't meant to be kept. While many people keep the
secrets of their family recipes close to their hearts, others are
sharing them with the entire city. Or, at least the end result of the
recipe. My husband had told me about a small Italian place in town that
a co-worker shared with him. The guys from his office had been there a
few times, and not many had heard about the place before. It seemed to
be a secret. It was so good, it was a secret my husband could keep and
urged me to go, and soon.
The day after Thanksgiving we had gone out for breakfast, which was very filling. We did some shopping and he turned to me saying we should make room to go to the Little Italian Kitchen, one of the best kept food secrets of Fort Collins. I was all for it since this was the type of review I've been dying to write. To share the secret that there is fabulous food unknown to so many. It's a secret my husband couldn't keep from me and it's a secret that I can't keep from Fort Collins.
The Little Italian Kitchen is in a very small space off of Shields, northwest of Elizabeth, across the street from CSU and in between Planned Parenthood and Bon Voyage Travel. Owned and operated by Nikol Schwab, a spirited and extremely friendly person, The Little Italian Kitchen started as a labor of love at Farmer's Markets where Nikol sold her famous meatballs (also known as the Best Balls in The Fort), Potica Bread and Italian Cookies. Everyone loved her food, just as much as she loved it when it was cooked by her Grandmother, who's recipes she uses. After five years of selling at Farmer's Markets, she decided to leave her day job and open The Little Italian Kitchen in January of 2009. It has snowballed (or rather, meatballed) from there...
